I just realized there were some questions on this post that I never answered! Opps...

1. How deep is the reservoir? I usually make it about 1" deep. Sometimes I don't even keep the reservoir full because it tends to grow algae, so I just water the plants in S&H by plugging the holes with my fingers and allowing the containers to fill up twice, then I drain them completely and put them back on my shelf. Since the hydroton holds some moisture, the roots stay really happy. I water once a week this way. The plants in the below picture have full reservoirs from the dew every evening!!

2. How long were they in transit? I think about 2 days

I will definitely update you with how they are all doing as soon as possible. At the moment, they are living on my in-laws porch and they seem to be doing okay. Here is a pic of them all jumbled together, with my coleus and pothos and bamboo to keep them company

I like s/h culture as well and spent the other day moving more of my Phrags to it. I also have some Catts in it and plan on moving more. The one thing I find important is to move plants to this culture at the time of new root growth. Most of the older roots will die in this culture and the new roots will adapt to the culture.

Nice plants there! I am going to have to get you to remind me the name of your grower again. Those looked nice.

A little over 2 weeks now I told in this thread that I repotted a few of my orchids into S/H.
First of all, it was time for some of my plants to repot them as the roots needed to be cleaned up urgently.

Now after more than 2 weeks, I already have some positive results : 2 of the catt 's are making new roots as well as one of my phals. And the best result : I had a Paph which was a relatively good looking plant but didn't bloom at all. Now it shows the beginning of a new flower! It's a hybrid, but I am very pleased though.
Now, every evening, I repot 4 to 5 plants and it is real fun. Normally I hate repotting, but this is even relaxing.

Great to hear!! I've mentioned in the past that I believe that repotting is really "revitalizing" for plants...they seem to really bounce back after it is done, and with such vigor! I am glad to hear yours are doing well

I just came home to a bloom on my Blue Hawaii in S&H, I'll take a picture soon
