    Default Phal switched to S/H

Just wanna share this Noid Phal. that I switched to S/H 2 weeks ago when I finally found a Hydroponic store that carries hydroton. I noticed today that there's a new leaf emerging and 2 of the roots started to show signs of new growth.

Well, it's been 12 days since the last photo and here's the happy guy today. Hopefully I will be posting some blooms next time.

Phals are SO quick to adapt to SH, its pretty amazing. Are you keeping yours in a lower light area since you switched it over? Or did you just put it back into its normal place?

I agree, because the Blc. that I switched at the same time with this Phal. is still struggling. I put it in the same place where it was were there is an all day bright indirect light.

Was the water completely clear before you potted the orchids? I rinsed the hydroton, soaked it for 3+ hours (couldn't do it over night since I bought it on a Sunday), then rinsed it 2-3 more times and I couldn't completely get rid of the reddish residue in the water.

Yes, I used a strainer and let the water run throught it for a few minutes until the water is clear. Instead of soaking for 24 hrs. I just put the Hydroton in boiling water (which I read in another thread)

I know the red dust stuff from the hydroton looks unappealing, but it won't hurt the plants at all, if that is your concern. A good flushing with regular water through the pots will get rid of it in no time at all...usually for me, its completely gone by the second watering after I've repotted.

You all are soooooo tempting me to try this S/H thing. Now all I need is a nice big shelf for the living room. I think I feel a shopping trip coming on....
