There are several different kinds of volcanic rock commercially available in the Philippines. I guess it depends on which volcano spit them out in the first place, and how long they have been exposed to the elements.
The rocks found near the northern part of the country are typically red and are very porous. The southern regions typically have the black/gray and heavy rocks.
Of course, I recommend the lava rocks that have aged a couple of hundred years. NEVER use fresh lava!
