when you get a new orchid, do you put it under the lights immediately or in more shady conditions for a few days?

Hi Debbie! If it's a non-blooming orchid, I just stick it under the lights (after checking it over to make sure it's bug-free). I never thought it might need time to acclimate to the environment. The fluorescent lights don't seem that strong to me.

Debbie, if the plant's in good shape, there's no reason why it shouldn't go immediately into the light it's used to getting. If you're not sure what that is or should be, you might start by placing it under the edge of the flurescent tube, and gradually moving it closer to the center when you're sure it's not getting too much.

What kind of orchid is it?
