    Default orchidarium

    hi
does anyone have experience with an orchidarium
i took an 150 liters aquarium and converted it to an orchidarium i have filled
the bottom with 24 liters of water and put a 200W heater to produce humidity
i can control the water temp and the humidity for a range of 50-80%.
the problem is that the water is standing and there is no circulation like a natural source of water a river or so, and there are starting to appear very small white dots on the water surface, which i belive to be some sort of organism that are in the water (could be bacteria) i'm afraid of creating a situation where a bacteria that cause an illness such as the Legionnaires' disease could grow in my orchidarium and apply risk to my health.
how can i filter the water and keep than safe, since they are very shallow an internal filter can't function in this water they water level is only 6-8 cm.
i was thinking on adding a serious amount of salt to the water that way killing any organism that are inside the water but i'm not sure if in the process of water vaporing the salt will vapor as well with the water vapors and arrive to the plants.

Don't worry, you are not going to breed disease in your aquarium. If the film on the water troubles you, you can buy a small filter that will clean and circulate the water at any pet store.

I would recommend using a small air pump with an air stone attached with tubing. Even though your "pond" is shallow, the air stone will produce a froth of bubbles when placed in the water. That may help with production of humidity and circulate the water a little bit.

    humidity isn't the problem
i have great humitiy and able to control the amount of it.
also able to control the overall enviroment temp.
my problem is with the standing water that is starting to get unclear and with small withe/offwhite very very small spots.
