    Default Mold growing on roots of Laelia-Cattelya in semi hydroponics - help

    I have a Lc. Summer Christmas 'Maria' growing in S/H and it looks like mold is growing on the roots in the top of the pot. Help Please

    Is the mold White and sort of crystaline?

    Do you have a fan blowing on this orchid? Clean out the mold and increase the air movement and see if that helps.

    Also make sure that there is no old media attached to the old roots. Under conditions of constant humidity, fungii will grow and decompose the bark and the dead roots (old media unsuited for SH) which is nothing but cellulose. After about 2 weeks and several thorough washes you should have gotten rid of this problem.

    I pulled the orchid out rinsed it off good checking for any bark media didn't find any. I cleaned the hydroton really good cut off dead roots & replanted back in the s/h. Hopefully will do better now.
