I can find coconuts with the husk in brooklyn ny at markets and street stands...
I the summer I could get a bunch of discarded coconuts husk after people had drank the water in it.
if you want to drink the water a small coconut is $2 up to 3 or 4 bucks for the larger ones.

I noticed some are yellow and some are green. what is the difference?

Anyway coconut is the best media for me by far. It can dry fast.

Always good to have a USB memory card reader. usually faster than the camera cable and does not drain the batteries. you can keep shooting with a diff card while you download.

less wear and tear on your camera.

you can get them real cheap

Hehe, I have one, but I was taking the pictures without the card in the camera, so the photos got saved on the camera memory, after about 10 clicks, it started saying memory low, it was then that I realised that there was no card in there.

I also use it as a potting media although not alone, as it retains too much humidity and can cause rotting/fungus in tropical climates. I therefore mix it 1/3 with 2/3 natural charcoal (not commercial compressed bar-b-que briquets!). However, if you live in a dry climate they are ideal. The step by step instructions with photographs are excellent!

This is helpful. Great tutorial! Do you know of anyone who starts with the green husks? Should they simply be allowed to dry out in the sun and then prepared as you described? I am just getting started and have access to green water nuts.
