With the new house, I had to come up with a new winter grow area. I have a garage with a large window that is going to be the new winter time set up for my orchids. I decided to go with supplemental lighting since it is a North-East exposure. I understand that with that exposure I would need supplemental lighting for my vanda and other "high light" plants. I am going to try the led panel because I read it would provide my plants with what they needed, was energy efficient...and I had enough points on my credit card to get two of these free. lol Does anyone else use the led lights? Mine is 28 watts and is supposed to be good for a 5 sq. ft area. I plan on putting them directly over the high light plants and put the lower light ones farther out. Will this be okay? I am a total newbie at lights....
I bought a panel a couple years ago to test. Unfortunately, one of the bulbs went out--or something--and that rendered the entire panel no good. I tried wiggling each of the little bulbs in turn, but that didn't help. No help from the company. Nice thing is that the panels are very light weight. But if they're wired like the old xmas tree lights and one glitch destroys the entire thing, that's a problem.
Do keep us posted on how this works for you. My experiment was a couple years ago and technology sometimes improves quickly.
Do you still have the LED panel? Can you post a picture?
If you don't want it, I would take it and try it out. I can probably fix it.
Living here, what I really need is one about 1/2 acre and waterproof.
I am, taking that as a no. OK. I would have liked to fool around with the device to see if it is fixable and run some tests with the light.
I've been busy. Let me see if I can find a box to ship it in.
Thank you. Let me know what postage is and I will send you a check.
It will give me one more thing to fool with and drive my wife crazy. If I can get it to work I am going to play with her orchids.
