It looks like the roots with this system are in the water. I have been wondering about doing this. I have about 90 orchids and It gets to be a lot of repotting. Do they really do better?

Don't you have to water them more frequently with the cork stoppers Karen?

    Hi,
Yes you must water daily. It is not a problem for me as I only have about 47 or so. I am telling you the truth....They do way much better. There is NO ROT with the cork. I love it. I just bought one of those cheap $50.00 greenhouses. I just put everybody in there. I am leaving the flap open as it is very hot right now in Florida. I hope I do not kill them with heat now.

    Hi Karen

Love the wine corks. How often do you water those?

Not all of mine evaporate enough to needing water daily. Some do get daily water, I keep them together so it is easier to do them.

    Hi Harve,
I look at that dry lava rock and in others cork and all I see is sad little faces, so I spritz. I do love my Orchids. Although I am a newbie to this, I feel like I have learned so much from you and the other members.
    Thank you,
    Karen

I've had a few cattleya seedlings in s/h for about 9 months, and decided to try different containers for pots. The reason for this is because the pots I use tend to become brittle rather quickly when exposed to the sun. I've been using clear water bottles of different sizes. They are much cheaper, too. I took a few pics of roots just to record some of the results. In every case, the old roots have rotted away for the most part, and the young healthy roots grew down into the constantly wet area.

Here is Cattleya rex after some cleaning up, and finally repotted next to another one.
