    Default LED light follow-up

I recently bought two grow lights of the new LED type. I bought them to help in the winter, provide additional light of the color types that help encourage growth and flowering. They are not used alone in a typical greenhouse, but are used in addition to regular growlights. I have a huge window in my garage, however, that does give them some natural sunlight. We again have colder than normal temps this winter so I expected minimal growth and no flowers. Instead this is what I've got so far...

First pic...you can see the strange "pink" color from the lights on these buds.

The second picture shows a medium sized cattleya in bud as well as one of my "Wildcat" plants in spike.

The Vanda Lamellata is going great still...we should have flowers anyday and the tips are still developing more buds. (i cannot believe i'm blooming a vanda!)

Then there is the Howeawara Lava Burst. Usually I get one spike at a time, this time four!

    ...this'll take one more post....

This phalaenopsis has the thickest spike i've ever seen on one of my plants and it is growing straight up.

Another of the four or so catt's in bud right now...

And this is blurry, but my Zygo has two spikes with lots of pretty buds. Again, this plant usually only gives me one spike.

I'd say from my results...I need to order two more of these and my other two racks will start blooming too. lol I don't know about anyone else, to me the proof isn't just the blooms, buds and spikes. It's the size, number and yield. I'm convinced these lights work 100%!

That's very interesting. How expensive are these lights?

I use my credit card points. But I found them online for a little over $100 a panel. They are supposed to last quite awhile and you dont change the lights at all.

How many leds are on the panel? Are they a mix of red and blue? I tried a small panel a couple years ago, but once one led stopped working, it cut out a large portion of the panel and I could find no way to fix it.

Go to eBay and you will find loads of them - many different configurations. I also have one, but am using it right now on a toad and a lizard. Need to get experimenting with it. I found that it casts a rather direct light in the form of a small circle - interesting since the light is square.

I use them in the natural planted reptile habitats I set up. You can find them-----in the $20.00 to $30.00 range.

Wow, Connie--that seems like a great result. I have been trying to find good info on LEDs. I have a hard enough time assimilating all the numbers involved in regular lighting systems and there seemed to be so much controversy with LEDs over adequate wattage and angles and setups. And such dramatic difference in pricing!

I gave up and bought some cheapo shop flourescents. Most days my orchids were getting about 5 hours of good south sun, but growth has been slow and they were all looking quite dark green. I decided some light was better than no light while I continued to research LEDs. There isn't a lot of specific information out there for using them in orchid setups, and another orchid forum I lurk at seems to have dismissed them out of hand as quackery.

I would love to hear more about your set up and the light specs.
