Default T5 Lights - Number of bloom bulbs

I have my eye on a 48 inch, four bulb T5 fixture for supplemental winter light. Should the ratio of bloom bulb to regular bulb be two and two for orchids? Or, would it be three regular bulbs to one bloom bulb?

    Thanks,
    Austen

Looking forward to seeing what the growers who grow under artificial lights will have to say to this question.

    Cheers,

I used some lights in the house for gesneriads just using the cheapest light from the home supply store and have bloomed some dendrobiums, etc. They are good for tender seedlings too.

Me too. I use 4-bulb 48 inch T5 fixtures and 2 are warm bulbs, 2 are cool. Works great.

    Thanks!

Since orchids grow so slowly, I was worried that using two bloom bulbs might not give enough growing oomph. So, I'll go with two and two.

My light shelves were bought from another grower, who had had them made. They have 6 48" T5s instead of 4 (he had them built for catts & wanted the extra light), and reflectors behind the bulbs. He used (and I have continued to use) cheapo regular bulbs...half cool, half warm (every other one). He also told me that the bulbs should be replaced annually, as they lose intensity well before they burn out (may use longer if used only part of year, as mine are). My orchids seem happy with this arrangement. Good luck!

Well. From my experience , it all depends on which orchid will b grown under the lights. If it is phal, t8s are fine. Normal cheap lights work too. But if u spend on th better ones, they grow faster and bloom more often. Whatever it is , cattleya , dendrobium, encyclia will prefer stronger sightings. T5s do great.. More the better. For me I grow my plants in a tank like. Terrarium. I can control all aspect of the weather. Like amt of humidity, temp , lighting and so forth.
