The cold continues...i'm in the middle of the state, and although we don't normally ever see it get this cold (my 80+ yr old friend assures me it gets cold here, just not like this), we are seeing it hold and continue. I am thanking my lucky stars the room is finished enough to keep the 'chids warm with just a small space heater. But, so far i've lost buds on two different catt's and am trying to keep the buds on a recent purchase from joining them in bud-rot heaven. Hopefully this will end soon. Hang in there my Floridian neighbors!!

We are 2 hours south of Connie about 1 mile inland from the gulf, it was 36 at 7 this am. Sunday we brought in the spiking chids and the real delicate ones but 2/3 of my collection is on the covered patio snugged up close to the house. Sunday worries me as the lows are supposed to hit 30. DH is going to fire up the Big Green Egg and leave her running all night to offer a little more heat to the patio. Word is that this is the longest sustained cold spell in 20 years. BURRR !!!!!

Here in Houston, we will have high 34, low 20, and not warming up above 40 until Sunday. Since I didn't get approval for real greenhouse, I bought a small 3'x4' one, and I have moved most small/medium sized orchids there, and hooked up heater for them. I was actually surprised how much I can stuff into that 1 small greenhouse. My bigger orchids and spiking ones are now in my living room, on the table, stand and floor. It's like a jungle inside of the house

Wow. That seems cold for Florida. It is cold here tonight. Right now it is 18F and the low is going to be 6F. I had to move the orchids that were next to the cool cell toward the center of the greenhouse today. The cold air coming in through the vents was freezing. I hope I did not get any permanent damage. Tomorrow the high here is going to be 16F and the low is forecast to be 1F.

    Cheers,
    BD

Me and my blooming, spiking, chids are warm for tonight, they are sleeping in the room next to my bedroom,(kind of a combo extra living room, computer & TV room, and orchid room at the moment)....The rest are in a makeshift greenhouse with a heater. Keep the fingers crossed for everyone ....

Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer, then drop again for the weekend ....(I must water tomorrow.. SH mostly, haven't watered in 4 days)....

LOL, you are not alone in your cold spell, we have snow that has lay on the ground for nearly a week and ice like we have never seen before, sounds silly a little snow and ice causing me such chaos, but I am disabled and cant walk very well, and also have back trouble so I am terrified of falling, two people I have heard of already have died as they fell and hit their heads on the ground from the snow and ice and my dad who is frail fell yesterday as he was pestering my mum to take him out so they walked into the shops and he slipped and fell backwards, my mum said he now has a lovely bruise on his rear, he is a lucky man, I told them not to go out, ( independance is a tough thing sometimes LOL) My husband visited my father in law yesterday to take him some chicken and go to the store and he said th roads other than the main ones, were like skating rinks ( I saw someone sliding down the road yesterday morning) I dont understand how people manage in extreme cold, my body is slowly objecting with pain getting worse every day and trying to keep the house warm is a challenge as we dont have full central heating LOL I managed to fall again inside yesterday so I dont think I have a prayer in the ice LOL I am very lucky I have a husband and family that look after me very well, I feel for those in a situation health wise like me that dont have family and partners who can help them, they are totally isolated.

OK OK I heard them screaming last night and I couldn't sleep. So this AM DH got out the Blue tarp and we brought in all the chids for this cold weekend that we are expecting. SW Fla may see a snow flurry tomorrow, Whee !! Molly Taco had been on Lizard patrol, I only hope she doesn't bring a present to bed tonight
