Default SOS on problem with Semi Hydro and Bulbophullum

When I tried to transplant the size of the Bulb, did bot allow me to put in a standard S/H pot. Even the 10 inch was too small in diameter. Therefore, I improvised and used a pot I had in the kitchen and concerted it to a S/H pot. The plant fits but there is not much space between the reservoirs and the roots of the plants. Has anyone had such an experience and if so how were the results. I am considering cutting the plant i half so I can use a standard pot. If you can give me some advise it would be comforting.Name: IMG_1198.jpg

Planting and container looks ok to me. I have not grown bulbo's yet on S/H. if the depth of the container is shallow, it would evaporate the water sooner so might require frequent top-up.

The only potential issue with that container is the depth, as it only allows a very small distance from the top of the reservoir to the top of the medium.

If there is enough depth that the plant is potted without its roots being in the reservoir, then it's fine - they'll grow into it eventually no matter what the pot depth. If, on the other hand, the roots reach the reservoir now, and some are submerged, then there is a problem that can be resolved fairly easily: Either plug the current holes, drill new ones lower, and make the reservoir shallower, allowing the roots to be above the liquid level, or run out to your local box store (or whatever) and pick up another plastic container - food storage, trash can, whatever, that is larger but deeper.
