trinidad? isn't your whole world a greenhouse there??? in a tropical clime, i would probably want more a a shadehouse or lathe-house or something... if there is not enough shade already.

Coeruleo is right. What you need is a shade house, either slatted to give about 50 - 70 percent shade, depending on the intensity of your mid-day/afternoon sunlight or using shade cloth to give the necessary amount of shade. In Malaysia, with a climate not much dissimilar to yours we normally use a plastic type shade cloth(net) to provide the required amount of shade. Once it was common to use wooden slats over the orchid house but wood is now too expensive to use. I use galvanized iron pipes for the main structure and shade netting. The UV resistant shade cloth/net lasts 3 - 5 years in our climate and cost a fraction of what I would have to spend on wooden slats but definitely the wooden slatted orchid house will look much better and 'classier' .

Concur with Coeruleo and Yew Sung. Shade house would be better for tropical climate and really don't need a greenhouse

shadecloth is wonderful. it is the only way i can grow orchids here, i even made myself some drapes with it for the south and west facing windows. i got a nice 70% tan colored plastic fabric that matches the apartment. i use it out on the balcony too, especially in winter to avoid sun-fried orchids. get some plastic zip ties, and make some sort of frame or ziptie it to an existing rail or structure. very light weight and versatile to use. easily taken down and moved. can be left in place for years. it comes in several colors.

I have seen a set up with lattice work...the new white plastic stuff. A few boards set up like a garden arch and the lattice work at the top. Personally I go to the dollar store and buy cheap lace curtains to hang over or in front of places where it gets very sunny and hot. It is cheap to replace and you can soak them in bleach to clean them. Best of luck...I look forward to seeing how you set up a shady place for them. I hope you will post a few pictures when you get done...

Thank all... I'm looking at shade cloth, iron piping and I'm very much into recycling so i want to see how best i can incorporate used plastic bottles etc. I saw someone used plastic bottles to BUILD their greenhouse... so maybe i can incorporate that into my greenshed *happy dance* ANNND im going to try to construct my own wire baskets as well to house my orchids.

I will most def will post pics...
