    Default Waterproofing wood

My friend built me a wooden frame for an orchidarium. It will be 65 to 70 percent humidity.
He did a really nice job and I want it to last as long as possible.

Wood is pine if that matters...

What is the best thing to waterproof it as best as possible while remaining non toxic to the orchids inside?

If you really want it to last a long time, and oil-based, exterior enamel is the way to go. Once dry (it will take several days), there will be no fumes.

Thanks Ray. I didn't think I had anything like this in my house, but then I found a big thing of a very popular brand of water seal so I am going to try that for now. Luckily we have two days of warm and dry weather and I needed to get this done before the weather goes bad again, but I think it will work for now. If I have to, next summer I will take it apart and redo it.

Be careful of water seal products - they are intended for outdoor (deck) applications, and off-gas like mad, and the smell can last a LONG time in an enclosed space like the home.
