    Default My S/H

I was terrified to try it out since I had such an investment in my orchids. I tried and and will never go back!!! I use perlite and lava rock, I use ther plastic coffee cans for the pot, and my plants are happier than I've even seen them.

The pb's are so huge and the root system grow so fast, I had to upgrade the pot size in 6 months!

I tried S/H once... and it was a complete kerfuffle... I must have done it wrong.. I lost the Paph and the Phal that I tried...

When you said, the "pb's" are huge... what type of orchids have you used it on?

I might try it again seeing as I have some plants that just doesn't like bark... after all, it's a matter of experimenting right...

s/h is a cetain amount of trial & error.
In my conditions/care s/h is very successful for most genera but thats not to say that bark would do as well , it is just more convienent for me.
I really do think that other conditions(not just the medium) are major contributers to the success or failure of s/h.
My 2 Catt species are responding well to s/h now that they have only a tiny res that empties after a few days.
Phrags seem to like taller pots.
Phals including species seem to do really well.
Paphs , well the jury has not reconviened after the big set back last year.
Oncidiums can be a bit of a challenge , most seem to really like it but others are not so happy but this may be due to me not getting other requirements correct.

I have used it for oncidium's and miltonias. The blubs are so big , they look like they can burst! Sorry you lost some plants. Paph and phals are one that I still have in wood chips.
