    Talking First Attempt at S/H

Allright, so I took the plunge and decided to put some of my plants into S/H. There are 2 paphs, 1 Ctna, and 1 Phal. Wish us luck!

Looked nice, Becky. But I would try very little water in the pot first. Once new roots developed a lot, you can slowly add in more water.

    Looking good.
    Is the medium Hydroton ?
My biggest problem with paphs in s/h is keeping the top of the medium damp enough so that new roots do not dry off before they get established.I have seen people using an inch or so of sphag on the top of the medium to get around this.
Probably if my humidity was very high then this would not be a problem.
Keep us posted how they get on.

Looks good ! Did you see active new root growth ? If so, they should be fine ? I personally do not withhold water. It seems to me even though the medium is soaked it takes a while for it to get 'tempered' and stay moist.

I just put these into S/H last night, so we'll wait and see how the roots react. Yes, Hydroton was the medium I chose to use...I might have used something else, but I didn't want to pay shipping charges, so I bought Hydroton at the local hydroponics store, as that was all they had available.

I have a humidifier quite close to the plants, and I mist them in the morning, so I think the new roots will be okay when they come out :-)

I'm excited about this- it could really help to make keeping these plants easier for me. I'll keep you posted!

Cool Becky - I will be very interested to see how you get on, it's nice to see other people experiment, as I have been thinking of doing so myself.

Smile S/H is a great success!!

Well, I think I can say that S/H is definitely a success! My Ctna 'Why Not' has started to put out a spike! I'm thrilled!! Now let's just hope it stays happy until it blooms! haha...
