Can I Now Consider Myself An Orchid Enthusiast?
Well, count me among growers that have killed orchids. I read that if you are in it long enough, you have to have some RIP plants. I put 2 orchids in S/H a few months ago. Both in great shape, but I guess one wasn't ready for S/H. The one I murdered was a Blc Laura Bush ' Carmela ' the other is a Cattleya loddigesii v Harrisoniana. The former is doing great in S/H and growing new roots and rhizomes. I ordered me a new Laura Bush 'Carmela ' because they are so pretty. Wish me luck with the new one.

of course, you're now an orchid enthusiast, I mean, after all, you've killed a plant and didn't get discouraged from getting the exact same one!
so good luck with the new Laura Bush, BLC that is

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

If you don't kill a few then you get far to cocky about growing these little beauties. We all do it as a matter of fact I have a couple gasping right now. Good luck with you new chids.

Thanks all. I do already have my new Blc Laura Bush 'Carmela'. This plant is just a little bigger than the other. Very healthy looking. Yes, this orchid is a beautiful color in bloom. I can't wait to see the flower. I think the mistake with the other one may have been that I hadn't had it that long before putting it in S/H, it was still adjusting to the move from lovely Hawaii to Texas. I am not touching this one until spring.

as long as you learn from each one that you kill then your top rate!! I don't even want to guess at how many died under my care over the years. I used to keep a pot with all the labels of those that went to orchid heaven. Fortunately, I loose very few now. Although I am at the point of "pushing the envelope" meaning growing chids that don't match my environment. Still every once and awhile I "bring out the dead" I think I only killed 2 or 3 this past year. That isn't bad for a collection that numbers somewhere above 450 chids.

WOW! That's a collection! I only started my collection in May when I got my Phal Long Island Pride ' Isabela'. I have 15 already and yes, some of mine are really not suitable for my part of Texas, but all are doing well with growth. My true test will be to see if some of mine will bloom.
Cindy, the assassin label just might fit.
