In the 70's when I was somewhat younger I worked with a team led by Dr Don Hammer he was a wildlife bioloigst who worked for the Tennessee Valley Athority, in Knoxville. We reintroduced Golden eagles along the Blue Ridge Highway between Cherokee and Ashville NC, and the Great Egret back in an area Just north of Cullman Ala on the Tennessee River. 40 years later it looks like both were very sucessful.

The Golden Eagle is my favorite what a perfect species of beauty and hunting ability and wing spans that are awsome, unlike the Bald the Golden Eagle hunts it pray.

The most exciting thing I ever saw and filmed was a Golden swooping out of the sky at an unbelievable speed and precision and grabbing a rabbit. I will will never forget it. When it was over we felt as if we just departed a rollie coaster. There were some pretty big and rugged men in that crowd and they all including me had a few tears in our eyes.

Bob, I couldn't agree more. The Golden Eagle has always been my favorite. I've often thought the Golden should have been used as the symbol of our country.

but unfortunately, this wasn't shot in the wild. I shot it through chicken wire at a place where permanently injured birds and animals are kept safe and protected.

Is that the refuge east of Orlando ??? He reminds me of the general a bald that was injured in a collision with an powerline. The lady that adopted him took him around to schools for the kids to see and co hab with This was also in the seventys a great learnig experience and a great chance to get the people to appreciate the bird. I too always the Golden should have been Americas bird a great symbol,

No. It was actually shot near here in Davie. They do great work with all sorts of injured critters. Right now, there are a pair of Bald Eagles, and there are three (I think they said three... maybe just two) eggs in the nest. When the babies are old enough, they will be released back into the wild, but mamma and poppa Eagle will not be able to be released. I believe one of them had been shot at one time.

There's also a Golden Eagle, but I've had no luck shooting her any time I've been there. I may try again next weekend, since they'll be having an orchid show and sale. hehehe....

Here are a couple more shots that were taken more recently (a couple of weeks ago).

Shooting through the wire was very difficult, but I finally managed to find a spot where I could get my lens right up against it (shhhhhhh don't tell the people at the gardens). You can plainly see it in the background in shot 1. In shot 2, I managed to get a much more natural look.

Still a majestic bird even injured, When we released the Goldens in NC about a year later someone shot one of them. They caught the guy and he was sentanced to prison for a couple years. I thought it was fitting.

I think shooting people like that would be even more fitting. They do it for nothing but the sport of trying to kill something beautiful.

I agree eaglssong these people dont deserve to be in a nice warm dry cell with food and water available, these people deserve the same fate as the creatures they injured or killed, ok thats me on my soap box! stopping cruelty to animals and wildlife is a bit of a passion of mine sorry

Wow...this thread is still going since I started it last summer!

Thought I would pop in an announce that I finally have ordered my brand new Nikon D300 and am beyond excited! I have a guide book I am currently reading until it gets here. I was considering a D90 for awhile but a buddy of mine said of all the DSLR's he uses for work the D300 is just amazing and the D90 simply doesn't compare. So I took the plunge and found a great deal on the camera body with a single lense and plan to buy the battery grip and a larger tripod in a few weeks.

I can't wait to take some orchid pics with it in the next few weeks!!!

    Yippee~!!
