Dend Apichart Rainbow HDR
I tried out HDR for the first time because this one is so hard to get the blues and greens in bright light, and in dim you can't see the flower.
Here are the tones I love the plant for (yay, two spikes this year!)
It gets all pink and you lose the richness and the green when exposed more (this is still a bit underexposed to keep the pink out of the final version):
If you put the two exposures together it seems to pop out at you. I think this is much more like how I naturally perceive the plant as my eyes take multiple exposures from different angles:

Interesting. So you combined the two different shots to get the more accurate color?
Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Yes, in this case I was experimenting to try to nail the color. The two or more shots are integrated using a free software. The way I think of it, it uses the correctly exposed portions of each image. If I bring in more high exposures the flower literally jumps off the screen, but it gets pinker (I'll post one later when I get home).
The standard technique for high dynamic range is to manually or otherwise bracket the image with a very low exposure, a normal exposure, and a high exposure from a tripod. The results can be quite stunning, here are examples from the sites:

It's called Photomatix. I used the free version, you just open the pictures, click "generate HDR" (it will look all bright and washed out) then click on "tone mapping" and play with the sliders a bit.
Here is the full effect with a third higher exposure:
