Black velour cloth or a black velvet would work well.

Thanks BD, but I think i need to clarify my question.

I have alot of shots taken in the greenhouse with many distracting background items.

I want to take these previous photos and remove the background and replace with a matt black ?

I found this post helpful, though I'm not sure it still applies to newer versions of Photoshop. I usually use the quick mask tool in PS to select out the plant and then delete the background or fill it with black. Hopefully that link is helpful to you if you're familiar at all with Photoshop

Its a long process, anyways you need to make multiple layers, original, followed by black background and then another copy of the picture, then there is a tool to extract the area in the picture you want, it works like a using a pen to outline the area selected, then you can delete the background, so that you end up with your subject with the background of your choice, it works well, but never as good for pictures taken against a light background. Hope that helps.
