    Default Dividing the Cultivation forum

Traci suggested that the Cultivation forum be divided a little into subcategories like Lighting and S/H, and it might be nice to have related threads grouped and organized that way. What do you think?

Here's a poll to vote in.

Also, be sure to reply to this if you have any suggestions for categories.

Thought I'd add a comment. I voted yes, but I don't think everything is too lumped together, but I thought we could try out seperating things and see how it goes.

Part of the thing for me is that I usually just hit the 'New Posts' link, so I don't really browse through the forum categories, but I think it might be easier for new users to browse through more seperate categories. But I'm not sure.

I voted no because I think that breaking it too far down into subcategories makes it become unwiedly and makes the whole forum seem less used/popular. just my $.02

Sue's idea for kinder/gentler navigation for newbies is a good one. I'm a seasoned nerd and found the navigation a bit confusing at first.

But rather than add more forums, why not create a forum for newbies. Tips and suggestions to aid newcomers. It could also address newbie questions regarding usage.

Duh...I just checked and sure enough - that's what this forum is about! Except it only offered me a little help. I sort of stumbled through until I figured out things.

There are a lot of things that are here, but not obvious to the new user. I'll gladly create new user-friendly threads. I'm badgering enough friends to join, I sort of owe it too them!

Sub categories of the cultivation forum would be much easier for the newbies. But as of now, its still quite easy to navigate and find what you are looking for, unless you are trying to find a post that had been posted a year ago. But, whatever the rest of you think best, its fine with me .

I think subdivision would be far too unwieldly. Appropriate topics, IMO, would do the trick and make browsing easier. i.e. "culture for ______" as opposed to "newbie question".

I'm pretty comfortable with the setup. The 'new post' option, search, and related posts at the bottom of the page I like. I'm a fan of simple, I like the variety of posts in the general topic forums, but it certainly wouldn't bother me to see more of them - frankly, it wouldn't really effect me much either way.

I have seen subcatagories used effectively, but on forums with thousands of members - and still only a part of those are regularly very active. It seems that they balloon in size/specificity and cut back eventually.

I posted to do what you want to. But like Sue said, it can be benefitial to newcomers to orchid growing and the forum. I prefere things seperated into catergories, but that is just one of my obsessive compulsive issues.

It seems fine the way it is, but I'm brand new, so what do I know?

    I voted lumped together.
Use of the stickies will make the more popular threads easier to find.
If i want to know about a particular topic i just use the search facility.

What a plonker i,ve voted for the wrong 1
Leave it as it is please or not .
    Whatever ?
