Images uploaded to the server can now be placed anywhere within your text instead of just at the bottom.

Upload your image like usual, using the Manage Attachments button. Once your file has been uploaded, place the edit cursor where you want the picture to appear, and use the Attachment Manager dropdown (the little paperclip icon, top row of tools on your edit screen) to insert the pic at the cursor position.

    Like so.

Here's a little video showing the process.

Louis, on long threads, there used to be a page 1,2,3 indicator at the bottome of the displayed list. Now it's not there and in hybrid display mode, I've had to continually return to the top of the screen to hit the "more messages below the current depth" line to see the next set. It still doesn't show me all when I do that, only as many as will fit in the current depth display list. Is there a way I can change settings to fix this?

This thread is an example where this happens.

RS, the page # indicators seem to only be showing up when you're in linear display mode. I've always used linear, so don't know if that's been changed now or if it's always been that way for hybrid. I think I can change the depth values though--let me give it a look-see.

I've changed the depth setting, and the page indicator shows up now in hybrid mode.

You shouldn't have a problem, but if you do, just post back.

A lot of the javascript has changed with this version--if you empty your browser's cache it'll force the download of the new code.

Edit--hmmm. Page # indicator is gone again. Seems to happen after you reply.

    I'll go report it.

I have one to report. I have previously deleted a post in Jumpluff's thread "Rhyn coelestis" in the old forum. Well, that deleted post has re-appeared here, I now have double post in the said thread!!

I like this one better, though. I've got more tools to play with.

I went ahead and deleted the duplicate, Tanya. Thanks for telling me!

    Default New Posts feature..

    Louis...

I'm noticing that new posts, that I didn't previously read, still show up even after you log out. If I've been off for a few days, I don't always read all the back logs...I just scan for topics that interest me. Is there anyway to delete this backlog of "new posts" that comes up without having to read or open them? I'm somehow up to 137 new posts since the new version came online.

Matt, yeah, I have this set now so that posts are only marked as read if you've actually read them. The previous version would clear that list every time you logged out or were inactive past a two hour time limit. Right now I have the new system set up so that anything you haven't read that's over ten days old will automatically get deleted from the unread posts list, but I might have to adjust that down some--maybe to three or four days--if people's lists start getting too big.

You can clear your unread post list at any time by going to the forum main page and scrolling down to the bar just beneath the plant clubs. Click the link that says Mark Forums Read. You'll have to remember to do that before you log out each time if you want to mimic the behavior of the previous version.

I had wanted to edit a past post
(from less than 30 days ago)
to update a link which turned "funny"
    after the update.
On my screen, there are two icons in the lower right-hand side.
The one labeled "quote", and a second one,
which on-mouse-over says "Quick reply to this message".
    Although a recent post
    (from this week)
shows three icons in the lower right-hand side:
    Edit, quote, quick reply.
So, I know the edit button can appear,
but not for the older one.
Is the inability to edit the older post a
    feature
    or a bug?
On closer inspection, the Edit FAQ says editing may be time limited.
    Is this the case?
If so, what is the time limit?
Sorry for so many questions and thanks,
    ennui

Ennui, yes, post-editing is time limited to 24 hrs. It used to be longer but that led to chaotic threads--people deleting or editing parts of their messages that had already been responded to--things would stop making sense.

So the edit button should *not* appear on messages you've posted over twenty four hours ago.

    PS. No problem about questions...
