I'm a lover of baggie babies. I found one the other day, it's supposed to have peach or orange color flowers...it's got a sheath. I'm hoping... Your kodama is too good! Great job!

I bought 2 of those C chocolate drop on sale for a dollar. in small bag. 2 " pot . how big was yours when you got it .
trying one in water or SH culture
Very nice! Every time I see photos of the C. Chocolate Drop 'Kodama' it goes to the top of my mental wish list.
I grow outdoors in the summer..April-Oct and indoors the rest of the year, under lights. I really put the fertilizer to them all summer. We have a lot of rain in this area during the summer, so that meant frequent anti-fungal treatment also. The nights in the spring got pretty cool; so that helped also. This year was the very best so far for my orchids, even the orphans that were dropped off on my doorstep did well. We were very lucky.
It was probably in a 2-3" pot but I'd have to say it was what I'd consider to be bloom size. Lots of leaves and in really good shape. Very unusual for a bag baby and especially unusual for the place I I bought them from. They can kill a orchid faster than I can and that's saying something.
Wow!!! Mary, these are very healthy plants with really beautiful blooms. You are doing a great job. Keep those green thumbs working.

thanks. does it bloom small? I am always broke so I buy stuff on sale and cheap.
what is growing a lot with long leaves is a Laelia anceps.
Anyway the C Chocolate Drop was on sale because it was but dried up but i cut one black leaf. leaves are about 4 inches. when i can expect it to bloom? 1 year from now?
how do yo grow it? lights or sun?
stefano
Being as yours is so small I would grow it under filtered sun. What country are you in? The amt. of sun would depend on your location. If putting it in the sun worries you, then put it under a grow light. I grow mine outside in the summer in filtered sun(under oak trees) and under grow lights in the winter(inside). Yours will have to put out some new growth next growing season (depends on where you are) Here in the States most are going into a semi-dormant state, those that have bloomed for me did so on new growth from this past summer. I don't see any more new sheaths on mine so I'm assuming that all my catts have bloomed out for this year.
Good luck to you with your new C. Chocolate Drop.
thanks

growing it on a coffee table converted as plant shelf. about 12" under 2 40 W shop light T12 tubes supplemented by a 24 W CFL in a clamp lamp with reflector.
I have a Laelia anceps seedling next to it that grew a lot in a few months. one or 2 of the new leaves have some purple in it and are light green so should be enough? What is the purple in the Laelia leaf?
This setup made my Phal equestris and Spathoglottis plicata spike. I also I have 2 Southern exposure windows that are getting crowded
