Or maybe this is called something different now ? Whatever - I bought this plant at quite a high price on the assurance that is is "forma xanthinum" - the pure yellow, rare variety of this species. The dealer told me he had bought the plant in Jamaica , at the side of Dunns River, when the locals were cutting down some of the huge trees which grow at the sides of the river. A popular tourist activity there is rafting down the river, and when I did it ( from a cruise ship some years ago) I saw the Broughtonias in flower high above my head. So I believed him. ( I didn;t see any yellow ones then . I wonder if they even exist ?
I only paid 4 times what the plant is actually worth....
    Still I do like it.

I've always liked the crystalline texture of this species, nicely displayed in this photo. Yellow and white forms of Broughtonia sanguinea do exist and are fairly readily available at least here in the US. I don't know if "forma xanthinum" is a valid published name or not.

I've never been to Jamaica, but for me it's a beautiful natural flower.
