Its been a very long time !. Maybe the first dendrobium in flower, in the wild, that I ever saw - 30 years ago ... Been on my wish list ever since.
Found this plant - a big plant in all senses of the word - canes 2 to 3 feet high, lots and lots of them, in a 7 inch diameter deep pot. Not a trace of any previous flower spike !
Suggestion from friends is that it was a stud plant at the nursery I got it from, and they gave up trying to get it to flower , and waited for the first sucker to come along - me.

Took me 3 years to flower it. Has three spikes like this, one on a leafless old cane, the other two on old canes with only a few of their leaves left.
My new canes are nearer 4 feet high, and it now has 4 new canes starting.
These are big flowers, at least 4 inches across, natural spread.
I think my success has come after my most recent greenhouse re-vamp ( I'll do a bit about it in another thread when I have the time ) but I now have a line of all my very tall plants along the centre of my centre bench, where they can grow up to about 5 ft tall before being in danger from the sweep fans, and they get light all round.
I think that when they ( since this applies to a lot of the bigger dendrobes in particular) sttle in here, I will produce some flower shows I can be really proud of.

Very nice! I had one that was about 2 ft tall, and I rather neglected it. When it started producing canes about 5 1/2 ft high consistently, I gave it away to a friend that had more room for it.

I prefer Den. Gatton Sunray (1 / 2 Den moschatum) because the look is similar, but it doesn't grow as tall.
