    Default Blc. Aloha Mermaid 'NN'

    Greetings all.
Well, I've been back with my plants here in the Keys now for 2 weeks and seem to have things mostly back under control.

This is a really nicely shaped flower, pleasing color and aroma. I'm quite happy with it,
I arrived to a malfunctioning misting system over my vanda's (timer replaced and all back to normal), near total decimation of my Phal. collection (will discuss that later) and an iguana infestation. They don't typically bother the foliage of the plants but if they don't eat the buds before they open they'll happily gobble up the flowers when they do open.
I'm not ashamed to say I've managed to "pop" a couple but there are more and the longer this goes on the smarter they get. If anyone has any other suggested means to eradicate, I'd appreciate them.

So, the Phal's, when we were closing up for the season in late May my "assistant" (read in here "wife") "helped me set out the time release fertilizer. I didn't exactly check her work but something tells me they were killed by kindness, if you get my drift. They were all in pots and I bet they got burned out. It has never happened to me before so....well.........
Now I'm thinking about trying to set up an area where I can hang them mounted. Anyone have thoughts on that? What would be preferred substrate? I was thinking maybe cedar shingles?

    Anyway....here's Aloha

She's beautiful! I've heard friends up her talk about a product Iguana rid that keeps frogs away but I would think it's meant for iguanas??

Thank you for the picture of this beautiful orchid. I am a little jealous. Here we are in the middle of the dark autumn but at your place the iguanas are romping around with you.

I know. My wife sent me a video she took yesterday of it snowing up in New Hampshire and I told her I'd rather fight iguanas.

Other folks problems are interesting, and make one count one’s own blessings...we don’t have iguanas, snakes, elephants... I could go on....
We do have tradesmen who don’t come when promised,”just pop out for a few minutes” to get spare parts for heating system, and then fail to come back, etc.etc.
Success in flowering any orchid away from the jungle where it grew naturally, is really a tremendous achievement. Anyone who does it regularly is a real hero/heroine, in my book.
