A little better this year. Last year something made all the buds blast. But still not back to normal. Happy to see these few - petals look a little droopy?

Around the Spanish Main, this ( very unusually for epiphytic orchids) grows at sea level. They call it ‘The lady of the night’ or however that goes in Spanish.
Maybe the professional girls use a similar perfume . I only just thought of this : and personally I wouldn’t actually know much (anything !) about ladies of the night, the two legged kind....

Lol! I'm sure your wife is happy about that! Thanks for the tidbit, I'll be sure to refer to her as lady of the night now. Maybe it'll pique by husbands interest in orchids

Time for a nomenclature tuneup, Sheryl.

As it's a species, the specific epithet is in lower case; it's capitalized in hybrids. Brassavola nodosa

Mine is blooming now as well Sheryl. It also has about a dozen spent infloresences but I don't know if they passed or were devoured.

Great orchid plant and pretty blooms, Sheryl! My friend, Gin, gave me a Brassavola nodosa that got huge and it is one of the favorites in my collection. I love seeing it bloom.

    cheers,

Ok Ray. Thanks. I'm not really involved in learning about hybrids, species, etc so it's not a tune up. It would be a total build from the ground up lol! I'm not saying in the future I might be able to spend more time to further educate myself. So if it's confusing for me not to capitalize properly my apologies. But I know you're just trying to help educate me here on this subject. Thanks again!

I think I remember us both having an issue last year. Maybe next year will be the year!

I don’t know that one - Spiranthes Chadd’s Ford, so I too looked it up. I note it is larger (florally) than other Spiranthes - glad to know that. We have one species grows here in the New Forest a few miles from my door. It was in flower the last time I went walking with my club - maybe in September. I saw dozens, if not hundreds of them.. so conspicuous ( joke) - when I pointed them out to fellow walkers I don’t think they even believed me when I said they were flowers, never mind being orchids ! Flowers only a few millimetres across, not too many, the whole thing maybe a couple of inches high.... Spiranthes : the name comes from the flowers being arranged in a spiral around the stem.
