This is a discussion on Cattleya sans famille within the Cattleyas, Vandas, Dendrobiums IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; I pinched the name from my friend who runs a famous Paris ,France, orchid nursery ...
I pinched the name from my friend who runs a famous Paris ,France, orchid nursery - for those who don't read French, it means orphan, or without family - much nicer than the new world NOID, I think - especially to those who don't speak French, and think it is a real name...
The plant label says "cattleya" - who will disagree with that ?
The check- the number on the pot, which is supposed to be a safeguard against wrong labels leads to "C. luteola x Sophro.grandiflora" ( which actually is registered as C.Beaufort) - anyone who thinks this is Beaufort. go to the dunce's corner...
So, who knows what it is - surely it does have a name, such a delightful little charmer ? Flowers only 6 cm or so across, but that husky dusky colour with the darker lovely crisped and ruffled lip. Wow . ( writing this after lunch, and yes, well, I did finish off a bottle of Beaujolais - couldn't let it go to waste....)...
Plant now has 4 leads, probably flowered on the other two when I had my attention elsewhere. Has flowered for several succsive seasons, too - before coming into my care where -( boasting again, Geoff ! ) the leads have gone up from two to four.
Any suggestions for a name, please do say .
Gorgeous!
