I haven't seen an orchid yet that didn't like to be mounted on a tree or part of the tree.

In fact, if you're about to lose one of your loved ones ... one of the best way to revive them is to mount it on a tree with a little spaghnum moss.

The cattleyas below were all in danger of dying, and most of them had 3 leaves or less, shriveled and on their last leg when I mounted them on a trunk of a cut down Australian Fern. BOY LOOK AT THEM NOW!

Yes, indeed! I live in Phuket, a tropical Island in the South of Thailand, and have also experienced
that most orchids, including Phalenopsis, just love to be mounted on a tree trunk (alive or dead, doesn't matter) and thrive much better than in pots! Try it, it wll pay off.

Beautiful! If you don’t mind my asking, are they in direct sun or filtered sun? Under palms or under shade trees?
All my orchids are mounted on trees, some doing better than others but for the most part, all are getting used to the sun since I have very little shade in my garden. Those mounted beneath the robellini palms have filtered shade but get western sun and are thriving.

I’m in Port St Lucie, FL zone 9b....loads of rain all summer and hot as heck as well!

I have nowhere in my house to hang mounts so I grow my few novelty phals in pots even though most people grow them mounted..
Maybe one day I shall buy a big driftwood and mount them all on it
