Phal

This is a hobby or obsession of patients.....lower nitrogen food and as cool as your growing conditions will allow and you will spike..... I have several at various stages of spikes and some that have no spike even growing in the same conditions as those with buds on their spikes....so just be patient and your plant will reward you......

Curiosity got the best of me and I am so glad it did, I pulled it out of the pot, looking at the roots they were getting dark and smoooshy from the spagnum moss it was in.....Here is a pic of the roots after cutting back the very dark ones and it still looks bad




I then soaked it for about ten minutes in superthrive and repotted it in mix bark only.....this what it looks like now.....Tell me what you all think. Thanks you all for your kind input and I really love being on this forum.:-)

Kelly, good going....I'd even go back now and remove those darker roots to the left in your pic because they probably aren't going to make it anyway. The white roots look very good. Then before repotting soak the roots in a properly diluted solution of Hormex, KLN or SuperThrive for 5 to 10 minutes and then repot in the wood chips you have which looooook great!

Your plant looks fine now - I bet you might even get a "stress after repotting" spike! Plants do that sometimes :)

I think it'' be better to keep your phal in a little shade, the picture shown that the leaves looks a bit red, seem too much light. It will spike when it feels different between day and night. my hybrid phals sit on a pot with some water below inside a basket. it will cooling a little.

I think the most probable reason that some phalaenopsis do not bloom has nothing to do with the temperature, but with light intensity. A small decrease in light intensity is all that is necessary. It occurs as the seasons shift from summer to autumn.
Ice cubes and cold water should never be used as a means to water plants or lower the temperature of the plant. For phalaenopsis this is a way of killing them: any time you subject phalaenopsis to temperatures below 45 F (7C), you are destroying leaf tissues. So, when you putting ice cubes and/or very cold water on the phal, you are killing them.

Thats the natural colour of the leaves .....they are not red, It just started getting morning sun about three months ago-it was always in the shade before.....Now that its coming on to Christmas the temp is dropping hopefully i will receive a nice surpise shortly.........Thanks for the suggestions...greatly appreciated
