Hello friends,
I am a newcomer to orchid growing and I am learning so much from this forum, but I continue to have a million questions!
I just bought a Onc. Tsiku Marguerite and it came in a small plastic "pot" packed with what looks to be bark and maybe even some stones (I am afraid to take it out and examine. It is actually taped in by one piece of tape so it stands upright, but the tape does not seem to be hurting or obstructing the orchid). It seemed to be happy as the leaves were very green and healthy and there was some new growth emerging. I brought my orchid back to my NJ apartment where the weather has been pretty cool and the sun has been in and out. My apartment is usually around 67-70 degrees but the humidity is very low. I put the orchid on a table with other happy n healthy plants under a window that I believe is facing northeast (but I'm not sure!!). Regardless, I thought this spot was best because it receives the most light. After five days in this spot, and one good watering, the tips of the leaves have yellowed a bit and there are small black spots on them. The new growth has actually prospered and the leaves are larger, but I'm worried that since there is yellowing n black spots that the orchid is receiving too much light. Is this correct? I wish I was able to post a picture so I could show you. I'll see if I can do that. I am confused as to how to give it bright yet indirect sunlight.
Also, I am learning that orchids don't need large pots to be happy and that they need good air circulation, but I'm not sure if I need to repot my orchid. Would it like new bark/mix.....? (what is best?)
Please let me know. Thank you so much!
KT
Oh, and should I put it in a baggy to aid with the moisture/humidity?

Katy, did you try posting a photo yet?
Cheers,

Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate your responses. I moved the location of the Marguerite and she is quite happy now. I am now beginning to get the concept of bright yet indirect light (for non-orchid experts this is somewhat baffling!). The discoloration of the leaves has not persisted and the new growth has really taken off! The new leaves are nice and strong and growing daily. I am so happy. :-) I will post a picture when I can. THANK YOU!
