This species was described in 1854 after having been discovered the previous year by Thomas Lobb in Burma. It's distribution encompasses quite a wide area from Vietnam up to Southern China and westward to India.
Paph villosum is found in the ancestry of many of the modern day complex hybrids. it has imparted the sheen that is so apprent in many of these hybrids.
In it's own, it has a beauty and elegance that is conjured by the carriage of the petals and the stature of the dorsal.
