You're so right, Yew Sung - this paph looks so much like P. niveum, I'd be interested to hear how the taxonomy treats the two species. And you know I LOVE niveums!

These are such pretty multiple blooms that the next time you see a spike beginning to appear, it would be worthwhile to stake it right awa, and to monitor the buds so that you can stake or tie them in a way that all will be upright and spaced properly next to each other. Nice growing!

In the beginning there were doubts that this was a separate species from niveum but taxonomists have confirmed that this indeed i a separate species. Physically it is a much smaller plant than niveum and the flowers are smaller and arguably in form and texture, the flowers do not match up to niveum. One fact though, it is a more delicate plant than niveum and sad to say mine has died. Now I have to look for another and it is not easily available.
Again a big welcome back - we've missed you, Maura.

And 'considered one of the viveum variant, the fact is still under discussion,
    Paphiopedilum thaianum.
I have no evidence either perticolarmente delicate, own three plants and never gave me problems, the only warning a high RH, 70% - 80%.

Thank you, Yew and oile: I am always fascinated by learning about new species is my favorite genus. Now, if I can only locate and keep alive a P. lowii! I have so many orchids to replace those I donated in Atlanta and Florida is challenging my growing skills!
