Chandra, I don't have patio or anything, I only have a tent up. If you have a privet yard you can always get a tent and then be creative... I just posted pictures of mine... And also I see sooooo many creative people around here...LOL I bought this tent couple of years ago new from a second hand store. It lasted two years, but this spring the top was gone. We (my husband and I) just attached another top on top (lol) and made it work.

I love moss, but thats because my environment is dry-
You need to find a medium that maintains a happy root environment and also accommodating to your schedule- if bark was a problem why not try a lava rock, perlite, charcoal with some bark chips thrown in?

I have my phals mostly in the clay balls. They are in quart size plastic cups, some with a drain hole about 2 inches up the side, some with out a drain hole (I have to tip the water out of those with out pouring out the clay.) I have one phal in water. Just an inch deep, with only a couple of roots in the water, the reat of the roots are lifted above the water. It is nestled into the top of a 50 cd pack (minus the cd's), rather than a cup.

So the phals like the clay balls! I think I'm going to do a bit of experimenting, with the clay balls and wood chip mix.....I have one with clay balls and moss but I truly do not like the moss! I find that since it doesn't dry out inside the house well, I think it smells a little musty until it dries out again....

I have one phal I'm waiting to re-pot, it's flowering right now, so I'm going to experiment on her! Thanks!
