Oh my god !! That is beautiful ! It must have cost you a fortune na hehe. Very nice hope it blooms soon.
Not really. It's on sale. There's an "AOS and Orchid Digest Fdk. After Dark 'Special'" sale that is ongoing. What is being offered are two different After Dark varieties at a reasonable price - one the dark black pearl variety and the other a burgundy, spotted variety (both FCC) and you could get both at a "bundled" special price. I have long wanted to have the deep, black variety so I opted just for one plant instead - the black pearl variety instead of the bundle being sold together. It was still offered at a good price but I could have gotten both for just a little more.
So this is the famous AfterDark you've been taunting me with.... I've been wanting to have one ever since I've seen a photo of it... and its black as black can be.... good luck growing it and please do share a division for me hehehe.
Hey Randy,
This is a sample photo of the flower that I got from the vendors website. The flower should look exactly like this because the plant I got is a clone. :devil2:
I love this plant and its name sure matches my handle. :D

Hmm now that you've mentioned it, yes it does match your handle... i didnt noticed that
before. I remember when I first heard of this, the first thing that came into my mind is
the Afterdark screensaver back in the days.
That is awesome. Being a catasetum nut myself I had to google to find out that Fdk is Fredclarkeara (what a mouthful!) the generic name for Catasetum x Clowesia x Mormodes. I really must search for this one.Hope to see yours blooming in its full glory.
Thank you so much Yew.
I would love to give you the exact site where I got this beauty but due to the rules governing this forum I cannot post it. I made that error before (in fact, twice already) and I'm careful now not to repeat that mistake again.
This particular group/family of plants are so easy to grow and that is one of the reasons why I like these.
Oh wow lucky you!!! I didn't even know those are now available in PI or did you order it directly from the grower? I saw their ad about those 2 plants that you mentioned.
They are 1 1/2 hours drive from where I live and I've been wanting to visit their nursery to see their mini-cattleyas (they also specialize in mini catts) but hasn't had the chance to do it yet.
Really gorgeous! I am not familiar with these at all...what are their requirements?
