Vanda Denisoniana Orange Question

Wish I was attaching a picture of the blooms . . . Thus my question. I'm showing you the beautiful healthy root system this vanda has produced over the past couple of years. I think I've had this vanda 4 or 5 years now and it's never produced a spike for me. Any thoughts??

Looks really healthy, Sheryl. I would guess it may not have been old enough to bloom yet or it needs more light.

I also bought a Vanda denisoniana about four years ago. It was quite big already when I got it but I could see that it hadn't bloomed yet which was quite surprising. It grew over the years and there was no sign of any flowers whatsoever. To make a long story short, I decided to get a small seedling from a grower in the US two years ago and although it is still very small I can see that it is putting out an attempt to a flower stem right now. Because of the small size of the plant I don't expect much of the flowers this year but it shows that this plant is a bloomer while the other one seems to require 'optimal conditions' to bloom or something.

Back when I had Vanda's I had a few that I had for close to 6 years before I could get them to bloom, I moved most of mine to direct sunlight and they were watered twice a day during our heat. The person I gave them to is a good friend and he has them in sunlight and gets lots of blooms on them now.

Patience is the name of the game sometimes. Yes I moved it about 4 months ago and it gets quite a bit of sun now, so we'll see? Thanks Jack!

Just curious, do you still have the big one Arne? And happy for you to be getting a spike on the new one.

If I'm not mistaken, I think you posted a picture of your plant 1-2 years ago. I also think you asked the same question, right Sheryl? At the time I thought your plant looked very similar to mine with almost identical shape of the leaves and I could have asked the same question, why doesn't it bloom?

I do see where I was crying about this one a year and a half ago Haven't wanted to top it and miss a spike season. So . .
I guess it's that time within the next month or so.

Actually this species is very tricky based on my experience some of them can flowers 3 to 4 times a year but currently I have all from the jungle and exhibit the same character like yours, I changed the position for almost about 3 to 4 months now I can see the leaves axils got something hope the spike will progress. The photo below almost about 3 to 4 years both of them never flowered I'm expecting something from them.


The above photo is danisoniana white I'm exposing to the bright light to induce bud formation hope it will succeed.Give him some more time.
