Default Latest Kagawara Seri Perak in bloom.

I have recently moved my arandas, mokaras, semi-terete vandas and kagawaras to a more exposed section of the growing area. They now receive full sun to around noon and 50% shade the rest of the day. I have noticed an increased intensity of colour but more compact arrangement(crowded) of flowers on the spike. This can be seen in the pictures of the latest blooming of Kgw Seri Perak. The flowers used to be spaced less closely together. There are 25 flowers and 16 unopened buds.

Incidentally the name is spelt either Seri or Sri Perak. I checked and found that this is not a registered name and therefore I couldn't trace the parentage.

Thanks everyone. The flowers are non-fading from first to last , even in strong sunlight.

Intense color, but not overwhelming or garish looking. There's a certain softness to these flowers and per the photo a two tone effect I like. I can't tell if I like the 'looser' looking blooms or the 'clustered' blooms better. Just out of curiosity would a orchid show judge care? AL

Thanks Al for your comments.I'm glad you like it - so do I: you should see it in the orchid house and how it seems to light up the place. Yes, judges do look for clustering. Clustering would be considered undesirable if the flowers are all bunched up on the spike and block or obscure our view of a large part of the flower/s behind it. In the case of Kgw Seri Perak, in no way can it be called clustering. I think it's my fault in the wrong choice of words in my description that might have given rise to that impression. I'm truly sorry. Btw the points I tried to bring up would become clearer if you click on the older thread of 02-19-2010 re the same plant. As the plant is still maturing I hope to see 2 spikes , one of these days. Hehehehehe

Yew; I thank you for your answer. I feel obliged to say that you never used the word 'cluster' in your above post. I imagined in my mind even more space than this post or your post of 2/18/10 between flowers and thought both ways would be fine by me. Out of ignorance (if clustering is a orchid judging term) I used this word instead of your own words. No need to apologize. Good luck with those spikes! AL
