    Default Oncidium 'Sharry Baby'

At my local Orchid Society meeting yesterday there was a raffle and naturally I had to buy a few tickets, and i won!

The plant seems very healthy and happy, but my question is; should I repot it? There doesn't seem to be any room left for the plant to grow.

However it is also in bloom and I'm really excited to experience the chocolate fragrance that often accompanies this orchid. Having said that, whenever i've repotted anything but Phals, they all drop their flowers. Coincidence?

I'm just worried i'm not giving the little gal a chance to grow, any opinions?

I'd leave it be until after it quits blooming. It may look crowded to you, but it is happy for now. After it blooms, it may take a little breather, and then start putting out new growths. That's the perfect time to pot....so that when the new growths start putting out roots, they can just settle right in...

And your not going to break the new root stumps off while you are potting it up either

Great one to win. Not only are the flowers pretty the scent is wonderful! When you do repot only go up one size pot. They prefer being a little root bound.

I had my sights set on a small mottled leaf Paphiopedilum, but alas, it was not in the cards.

I was considering buying this for my father for christmas, but now having won it, I think i'll keep it.

I'm not getting any fragrance yet, is it because all the buds have yet to open?

Someone had a Stanhopea somethingorother at the show table yesterday, just breathtaking.

Wish I had taken a photo, greatest smell too.

Place it in a sunny position, and let the scent go nuts! I have also found these guys do well mounted, but a pot is still better.
A good point from Bill there, only repot into the next size up!

Cool orchid win! When the buds all open, get ready for amazing fragrance. BTW, the name of the orchid is simply Oncidium Sharry Baby, no need for the " ' and ' " around the name of the cross. This orchid is made from: Onc. Sharry Baby (Onc. Jamie Sutton x Onc. Honolulu) which is Onc. Jamie Sutton (Onc. sotoanum x Onc. anthocrene) x Onc. Honolulu (Onc. Moir (Onc. altissimum x Onc. leucochilum) x Onc. leucochilum). As you can see it is a fairly complex hybrid.

    cheers,
    BD

    Thanks Bruce, tag's labeled incorrectly.

Tut tut, I'll have to have a word with the potter.
