Three Dendrobiums to pot

I was the lucky girl to find someone selling Den's that, with shipping, came to roughly $4.99 a plant. They are full bloomin size plants with enough roots hanging on one to choke a horse! Um....do hanging roots indicate a basket? The largest I'll post first as it came with it's tag, unlike the other two. lol It's called Kyoshi Izumi x Madame Udomsri The second and third plants are also Dens, Jisu's Star and the other is King Cobra. One has a flower spike curled like a piggy's tail and will let me know which it is. I've never seen such a thick flower spike on a Den in all my trips to the nurserys. I think it's healthy looking enough to hold on while I repot it. Also the largest has a new growth. Nice plants for very little money.








Since I don't know how to get more than 4 pic's to attach I'll do another post to show the spike....and third plant a little better. A closer look show interesting stuff growing on my flower spike.

Okay here are a few more of the third plant and a stray that followed my husband and I home from a hardware store the other day....it was so pretty we decided not to kick it out of the cart. lol I had three plants in the mail and still bought another one. Guess it's time to join the Orchids Anon. Group. lol








Does anyone know what I should put the big one with roots like hair in??? Am I guessing slat basket??

If I see them like that again, I will be happy to email anyone my source. Just don't look for fancy packing, lol, these came jammed into a box....no stuffing....no paper cushioning...nothing fancy. But they came faster than anything I've ever ordered and heck, they don't look too bad to me. My biggest challenge will be to find a nice pot they like.

Your Dendrobiums look so healthy ... I agree with you and would put the one with the "roots like hair" in a small slat basket with some fine bark. I have a massive den with similar roots, completely root bound in a tiny slat basket and loving it!

For the big dendrobium with a large root system, I recommend getting a 3-4 foot log, brace it vertically and mount the orchid there. Humidity should not be an issue in Tampa so it can just be mounted bare.

Ok, if that is not feasible, a wood-slat basket between 6" to 8" should do.

I hope the dendros I ordered come looking even close to that. I have never ordered before so I don't have a clue. I am sure I will ask for help when the time comes.
