Your plant, to me, accurately depicts how this species is suppose to be in the wild and as such I prefer it to the awarded clones with the flattened dorsal (which I agree with fren, and are probably hybrids of Bruno or are Bruno)...

Anyways, the colours on your plant is also very nice, good dark pouch and nice strong gren with a clean dorsal marking in the middle...

I am not sure of the dimension of your plants flower but that would also contribute to whether it gets awarded... hopefully the varietal name means it is bigger than the average plants.

So, bottom line... show it, if it wins, a bonus, if it doesn't, I bet someone will end up seeing the show and will want to start on the hobby, and then you'd know you helped someone discover the light

Well said there Bench72, as per usual. I agree totally. When I source plants I always try and find the closest to nature as possible, as it can only benefit culture in general to promote the species and it's natural form...the show bench...a different story!! he he
Now that I am off my soap box I will say that I will show it or at least have it appraised and see what comes of it, winner or not I still love it and it will sit proudly on the coffee table with a ribbon or without. The flower is actually the same size as the normal spicerianum which is weird since it is named as bigger!!!! in saying that it is about 4-5 cm wide and 5-6 cm top to bottom. Just hope this year it comes out ok, had a disaster year since we moved from Sydney and plants are still adjusting. My barbatum came out with a distorted petal...just awful.
Let's hope this little guy helps all newcomers to the "light"! as you said.
    LOL

Thank you for that, and yes I agree, it does have a strange beauty about it.
Guess that is why I love the slippers.
    Cheers
