    Default Genus cross-breeding chart?

Is there such a thing as a chart that depicts which orchid genera has been successfully crossed together?

    For example:
    Cattleya x Dendrobium
    Brassia x Oncodium
    Epidendrum x Cattleya

It would be fun to experiment with crossing orchids but I would not want to waste the time and opportunity if the crosses I am attempting are confirmed duds.
I have heard of some crosses actually producing offspring plants but never producing any flowers - which would lead to a very frustrating event after 5+ years.

The chart does not need to be as detailed as grex crosses, just the genus would be sufficient for my purposes.

I've tried searching for something like that before on the www but wasn't successful. I'd start with the genus list we have on here on the forum to confirm which ones have been crossed. From there it'll be long journey. Good luck, it's definately an interesting quest.

Typically, most genera within a Subtribe can be crossed against each other. There are always exceptions, though. I can't think of any right now...

Also, ploidy must be accounted for. Aneuploidy can be a result... ploidy can be better explained on the web than what I can write here...

Let us know what you find out. I have actually been wondering the same thing recently. I've seen a lot of really interesting crosses between various species/hybrids/kinds of vandas lately that got me thinking--vandas in the large genera sense. They get all kinds of cool things, but I wouldn't know what to cross with what.

John, this will be as close as you get to what you are looking for. It is not all inclusive for there are some things that will cross that haven't been named yet. I did a cross this year of a Maxillaria species onto an Angulocaste. Now, a cross with the mix Maxillaria, Anguloa and Lycaste has never been named. If one doesn't get named before mine are ready, I will have that honor. How do you like Ron-NYara?

BD, I forgot that you had one linked here. It is a great reference. I go to these frequently to find abbreviations.

No worries. I use it all the time too. Murray helps keep me on my toes and sends me new updates every so often. Also, when someone posts something I have not seen before, I try to add it to our list. It is a very helpful resource.

    Cheers,
