Default Wake up time for orchids

It looks like the plants all received their wake up call at the same time.
I'm seeing growth everywhere which is always fun.

Assorted dendrobiums after a long winter rest:

Even this tiny Den. unicum is trying to get into the act.
I see at least three growths.

I have added a small amount of rooting hormone to my regular fertilizer mix, and the cattleyas' reaction is scary!

    Can you say "roots" ?

    Yes I can say "roots"

    Backbulbs in rehab

I see some growths from the backbulbs!

Psychopsis bud - second attempt. The first bud blasted in winter.

    Cymbidiums
At this location, they receive from 5000-6000fc of light from 11:00AM to 4:00PM.
In spring and summer, I water this bunch every day at 1:00PM or around lunch time.

    Lots of new growths!

Cymbidium backbulbs - after 2 years.

Cymbidium backbulbs in S/H? Why not! Hey it works

I was going to take pictures of the cattleyas section but my misters activated so I will have to take pictures later

"I have added a small amount of rooting hormone to my regular fertilizer mix"

Never thought of doing that...I will have to give it a try. Not sure if what you are seeing is a reaction to that or just the time of year. I see root growth all over presently. Warmer temps, brighter light, and longer days. Things are waking up

Nicely grown! That is a serious amount of root and new plant growth. You'll have quite a crop by the end of summer. I give all my plants a little kick of rooting hormone once a month, in the growing season of course. So they just got their first dose this month and like you, I can see a major difference. I increased the fertilizer too since we are finally getting some sunshine and they'll actually be able to use it. It is like they have all decided to grow new roots and walk off the shelves!

    Hi Ron,

Yes this is the time of year when the orchids grow roots, but the root growth this time really surpasses last years.
I admit, there are several other factors that could have influenced such fat root growth this time. But I think that a little kick with a root hormone would not hurt as long as it is not overdone

Now that the roots have already sprouted, I am thinking of discontinuing the root hormone until next March again.

Congrats on all the new growth! I find spring to be such an exciting time for just that reason.

I hope the second time is the charm for your psychopsis bud.

I currently use Green Light Rooting Hormone - just because that is what I have on hand right now. And at the rate I am using it, the 2 oz. bottle could last me years
It contains 0.1% Indole-3-Butyric Acid (IBA) as the active ingredient.

The powder dissolves in water as long as properly mixed and stirred. I just use very small amounts whenever I fertilize.

I looks like mine are waking up too. I've just posted my superstar only since the others are not even close to John's magnificent growth explosion. I think this one can compete
