Will this survive?

Hello All,

I was misting my orchids this morning and I noticed that I got some water in the crown on one of my phals. I then got a piece of tissue to soak up the water. I have been VERY diligent with this since one of my Phals got crown rot this winter. I guess I was a little TOO diligent, because I broke off a brand new leaf (only 1" long) at the base. Will this affect a phal the same way that crown rot will and make it cease to grow, or will it just continue to put out new leaves and be a little lopsided?

I think it'll still grow new leaves. As long as it has a crown, it should be able to put out new growth. Though it will probably be a little lopsided.

It should be ok, Martha. It might be mad at you for a while and not do anything, but as long as the heart of the crown is still intact, another leaf will develop. Dust the remaining cut end with cinammon so fungus doesn't start in.

Been there, done that. It should recover just fine. Orchids are tougher than they look.

If it doesn't produce another leaf it probably will develop a keiki, so hang in there.
