I don't have an answer to your question, but must say I am surprised at your success with the keiki paste. It always seems to just initiate spikes instead of keikis for me.

Hi Everyone,
I have this Phal on which I experimented on one of its two spikes, using Keiki paste on its nodes. It now has two keikis growing on that spike. I have attached some photos.
I have some questions though. How many keikis can the phal handle, since I applied more paste on the other spike now?
Should I prevent other keikis from forming now? What special care can I also give the two keikis now?
Thanks
Fadi

Same here, Diane. I've used the product that I purchased from a place in Ontario, Canada and the only thing I ever got was more spikes. I was trying to promote keiki growth on phals that I screwed up with crown rot. The information that was included with my stuff, to address the original thread question, is not to apply it to more than 3 nodes because it might be too stressful for the plant.....
where in ontario did you get the paste, bikerdoc? just in case it's near me... (i know i can order it online, i just hate ordering stuff online) Please PM the information.
Well, I have read in many posts that you need to put the Phal in a dark place for some time so that it works, but basically I did the opposite.
I read in the sheet that came with the paste to use it on nodes 2 to 4 after all blooms have opened for more than one week and give a high nitrogen fertilizer. I followed the instructions, except for the fertilizer part (I use a balanced one) and kept the Orchid in the same well lit place and voila the keikis!
Oh I'm excited. I want ti try that. Can someone pm me with a vendor's name in the US, that's reliable and sells keiki paste.
Thanks in advance
ischel
Hi Ischel,
If you want, I can PM you with a name of a vendor in the US, who sells the same brand I have, where you can buy online.

Its all about the time you apply the paste... Apply it just when the first flowers open... otherwise when the nodes differentiate, they'll transform into spikes.... I agree with the high nitro fertilizer... It helps the plant grow and put on more leaves thus re-gain energy... Congrats... I'm going to give this whole keiki thing a try as soon as I get some 6-BAP...
