I got this baby at the local show this past weekend. Its and Encyclia cordigera, but its white and purplish with green edging. Would you call it and alba form?

Glad you like, I'm hooked on Encyclias.
I would think alba would be green and white only...I've seen some cordigera like that. It may be considered semi-alba though.
Lovely plant you have...Encyclias are my fav.
Shann~
Do encyclia's have any special needs compared to other orchids??
Very beautiful bloom.
Cheers,

Very nice and beautiful light on the second picture ...
As far as I know Encyclias have the same/ similar requirements as Catts. I have bloomed a cochleata in a south window, water twice a week, in medium bark on MSU fertilizer. They seem to be undemanding.
Now not a semi alba either. A semi alba would be green petals and sepals with the color on the lip. Encs need less water than Catts and a bit higher light. Their roots want to dry quickly after a watering. I grow mine either mounted or in baskets. I have even seen people grow them with wine corks as the medium.
Yours is very pretty
Hmm...so I'm quite successful with my catts here-most are potted in plastic with a chc/bark/chopped sphag/etc. mix and I water about every 5 days. Basically NO humidity on my window cills.
I have a couple of encs...one potted up like my catts-and it throws off new growth, is in the brightest SE window I have, but no blooms in the year+ I've owned it. (Enc. bassavolae). Wonder if it would be happier in a basket?
My Enc. fragrans is mounted on wood w/sphag over the roots and it seems happy, new growth, no bloom but it's only been here since fall. SE window. And, my track grecord with the cochloatas sucks-the one I have now is potted in my bark mix in a clay pot. And, it's not doing much....
Would they all like to be brighter and dry out even further? Hm...
