    Default my windowsill

    Hi all,
I'm not that lucky to have a greenhouse... when I see all your pictures I am drooling! But maybe, sometime when I have a little more time (I am mostly changing diapers right now with my 2 small kids) and when I have saved enough money, I will have one!

Until then, my orchids are being pampered in my house (or just outside in summer) I changed the growing medium of most of them and I am trhilled to see that they are doing great!
About 75% of my orchids are Phal species (mariae, lueddemania, amboinensis, lindenii, violacea, bastianii,....) and hybrids. The other 25% are Cattleya hybrids and miniature orchids. At this moment I have a Sophronitis cernua with 3 spikes and 2 of them are developing flower buds and a Nageliella purpurea with a flower bud.

Well, that's is! It cannot be compared to what most of you all have, but I enjoy my orchids and take care of them every day.

    Bye!
    Stefanie

Oh that is a wonderful grow area! And being a phal addict--and especially a phal species addict--I love your collection. You have very cleverly and beautifully used your growing space. And those plants look mighty happy.

So how old are your children? Mine are 2 1/2 and 10 months old. (Yeah, lots of diapers at my house too. )

    Hi Rich,
Since I have changed from normal medium into S/H, I have less work with my orchids against better results.
I fill up the pots once every week or even 2 weeks. It doesn't hurt them to dry out a little. The roots are not in the water but just above, where I have made holes in the pots. and they are showing very healthy new roots.
I can never have that much moisture in my house (I don't live in a humid climat) and in that way it is easy to maintain this.
Although it's already autumn, I open the window a little when the temperatures are soft, so now an dthe, they get a little air ventilation.
I hope I can post some pictures of buds and flowers soon.

    Stefanie

Wow!! muis01, you have a lovely collection at a beautiful and special place! Congratulations! The whole place must look gorgeous!!
I just wish I could do something like that with my tiny 1-room apartment... (I'll come up with something, you will see... I just have 2 phals, not that I need more space right now)

    Greetings from Argentina!!!
