i need this,.. i'm familiar with adobe photoshop for drawing & coloring using wacom, and also a little bit of graphic design,.. photoshop is easy as long as you remember the short cuts,.. photography is more difficult i think, life time learning,.. don't have photography talent, also don't even like taking selfies ... read a bit that flowers and fruits looks better in photos if they look wet, also a bit of oil to make it shiny fresh look,.. not sure if it's ok to put oil on orchid flower,...

I have a Nikon Coolpix S6400. It's a fine camera for what I bought it for - point and click pictures of family, pets, landscapes and flowers. Of course now I want to get really cool pictures and maybe its lacking a couple of features I'd hope for, but really I have no complaints.

I looked up ISO and got this website: Understanding ISO - A Beginner's Guide

and they said, "In very basic terms, ISO is the level of sensitivity of your camera to available light. The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive it is to the light, while a higher ISO number increases the sensitivity of your camera." It went on to explain that a higher ISO lets you take pictures with less light, but gives you a lower quality picture. Not sure that messing with the ISO will help my pictures any. :\

I can play with exposure (over and under) and with white balance. I didn't see anything else that seemed too useful.

Well, I've researched online a bit, but nothing helps like real experience and advice where you can ask questions. Some of the people here take wonderful pictures, so I'm hoping they can help. I realized my pretty BLC put its flower out sideways - oops! However, it is as pretty as I'd hoped and I plan to take pictures of it tomorrow before I drop it and break it or something! (It's pretty top heavy and I almost dropped it the other day, scary!)

You really need to alter the aperture. A wide aperture ( measured in f stops), will blur the background and focus on the blooms. An aperture of f5 is a good start. I'm not sure if your coolpix is able to do that. It might have a close up or macro setting though. That should give you a similar effect. Hope this helps

It does have a macro setting, I'll work with that then. Of course the flower I really wanted to get a picture of today got broken off when the rather top heavy pot was bumped and fell off the table. Fortunately the flower itself is not damaged and the plant has another bud breaking out of the sheath, so I can try for some pictures.

Carol, go to "Scene Mode" and select "close up" e.g. or as I wrote in another thread, use flash and make sure that two meters behaind your BLC, the space is free of any things.

Thank you. Unfortunately, for now, it will have to wait, as the plant (being top heavy) got bumped, fell off the table and the flower was broken off. It has another bud opening, so I will have another chance though!

it doesn't matter, take a picture of your broken BLC, just to show the quality of your image.

Even in water its all wilted... I can work with a couple of Phals though and the plant. Right now I have my son and his family over, so it will have to wait a day or two. Thanks!
