    Default Phal. growing new plant?

I have a phal May, Bro. Lawrence x Sara Lee that is behaving uncharacteristically for a phal. After it had bloomed for 6 months I removed the infloresence to give it a rest and waited patiently for about 2 more months for it to start a new leaf. This morning while watering it I examined it carefully and noted that instead of a new leaf emerging from the junction of the old ones as is usual with monopedil orchids like phals it had not one but 2 new leaves emerging from the left side of the plant, below the oldest leaf, one above the other, more paph like. One leaf is 1.5" and the smaller one is about 1". They appear to actually be a new plant. What gives?

Sounds to me like you are explaining a basal keiki, which does happen on Phals. When it matures it will give you quite a flower show. Or you cn remove it from the mother plant very carefully after it has roots that are about 2 to 3 inches long. I personally would leave it be. I have one that when it bloomed there were 2 spikes on the mother plant and 2 spikes on the baby, very impressive.

That's a new one on me and it makes good sense. Its already growing a root.
The parent plant was, and is, small, only 2 leaves. I will definitely leave it on the plant as it should eventually add to the strength of the overall plant. ,I got it, on sale and in spike, from a local nursery for $8. The only example I could find of it on the web was from a vendor, now defunct, in NJ who was asking $250. for a plant. Here is a photo of its flower.

Yes, me too! Then you can have twice the blooms.
