Hey Louis!
Casmira seems much faster on the new server! Bravo! The objects really load much faster and I am able to move around a lot faster too. Now, I just have to finish building my virtual greenhouse. Thanks!
Cheers!

I finally got Casmira moved and the new browser version uploaded (phew!) To get in, you'll have to download that new browser since the system settings have changed....
(No biggee... Just go to the Casmira page on the website and click on the picture at the bottom...)

Cool! I really need to model some actual orchid blooms in Truespace and upload them. Archon did that one that's in there but it's about time we get some variety. Maybe some slippers?
lja, what programs can be used to build objects? i've done a little 3d work in Lightwave, think there might be a way to import? as i mentioned before, i can't get there from here on my mac, but maybe I can build stuff....just wondering
pete
Pete, that would be great! I've never used Lightwave, but it's supposed to be a really good modeling program. Casmira's native file format is Renderware (almost archaic at this point, so I'm told, but what can you do...) which has an .rwx file extension. When I checked about a year ago, there were quite a few free utilities around that could take files saved as vrml and convert them to rwx. There's probably one that can export Lightwave's native format into rwx as well. It's an extra step, but one that should work. Have you tried getting in using VPC on your mac? It doesn't support moving around very well (Heather used to have a devil of a time) but at least you'd be able to check out what your constructions looked like in-world after they were uploaded.
Bruce and I use Caligari's TrueSpace which saves files as .cob and .scn. Casmira's browser can decode those formats as well.
thought i posted a response and don't see it...oh well....anyway, am looking to see how i can convert LW objects, and will look into VPC....thanks
pete
edit; VPC and the browser seem to be working OK, my framerate is not very high but i think that's a mac thing anyway...still working out what to build objects in, closest i can get in LW is vrml...will have another look around tomorrow
been doing a little running around but the browser seems to like to quit. i'm sure it's the mac/vpc thing....oh well
That's a drag. VPC is great for some things, but Cas doesn't seem to be one of them. Wish you had a windows machine around somewhere you could get hold of.
